I. ADMISSION
What are the criteria for admission?

The Committee on Admission considers the Ateneo Qualifying Test (AQT) results, Grade Six final grades (at least third quarter marks) and all other information in the application form.

I'm from a provincial public elementary school. Are the Ateneo grade six graduates and other applicants from the private schools given priority over the ones from the public schools or those from the provinces?

No. Both go undergo the same Admission process.

II. ATENEO QUALIFYING TEST (AQT)

        What is AQT?

The AQT is a test requirement for admission to the Ateneo de Davao High School.

        Is it difficult?

Some say it is, some say, it is not. Well, you just have to prepare well for it.

But most of those I know said it is difficult and long compared to other high
        school entrance tests.

The AQT is a standard test and is conducted under time pressure. The test-takers are given a certain period of time to finish a segment of the test. Since it is a standard test, we really have to follow the rule of administration strictly. Maybe that is the reason they say it is difficult - but actually it is how the test is conducted. But be assured that we are seriously looking into the possibility of reviewing the test so that it will be more student friendly.

I am just an average student. Will I make it?

You don't need an IQ of 200 to pass the AQT. IQ is just a mere component of the test, but is an important component. What really greatly affects your result is the sum total of all the knowledge that you learned in your elementary years.

What sort of questions does the AQT have?

The AQT has multiple choice type questions only. It covers areas like English, Math and IQ.

        Are the items right-minus-wrong?

                No.

Is there a section in Filipino?

                As of this writing, no.

How do I prepare for the AQT?

You mean, you haven't prepared yet? Seriously speaking, buying one of those practice tests booklets won't help that much. They may only help you in becoming familiar with answering the multiple choice type of questions. In my opinion, your elementary education is enough preparation for the AQT.

Are we allowed to bring scratch paper and calculator?

We will provide you with the scratch paper for your computations, but this will be collected after the test, together with the test materials. However, you are required to bring a calculator that will be used in the Math section of the test.

What will I need to bring?

Upon application, you will be told to bring the following:

1.) Exam permit,
2.) School I.D.,
3.) At least two sharpened pencils,
4.) Eraser
5.) Sharpener
6.) Calculator and
7.) Snack (biscuits, sandwiches, candies and other "dry" food are most advisable.)

Should you bring water, juice or softdrinks, please avoid drinking them while the test is going on. You might spill the drink and smudge the test materials.

Whom can I bring with me?

You can bring anyone with you, but of course, they will not be allowed anywhere near the testing area once the test has started. They can go around the campus and check our facilities.

What do I do before the AQT?

Relax! Stop studying 24 hours before the test. Any brushing up the night before or just hours before the test may interfere with your long term memory (which is what we hope you will rely on when you take the test). We do not want you to cram for the test.

Remember to take your breakfast. It is difficult to take the test on an empty stomach. Don't eat too much, though.

Have a restful night sleep before the test. This means, avoid partying, doing strenuous activities before the testing date. You will need your energy for the test.

PRAY! This will surely help you a lot.

If possible, come to the high school and take a tour; be familiar with the testing site.

What should I do during the test?

If you get stuck in one question, skip it and move on. Just come back for it later if you still have time. You might be spending more time on one difficult question and may miss 5 easy questions.

Pause from time to time and review your answers.

Be conscious of the time. The proctor will write the time the test started and when it will end. And from time to time, the proctor will write the running time, on the board.

Follow all instructions. If you find one instruction to be quite confusing, feel free to ask the proctor. The proctor is there to help you.

If you finish ahead of time, DO NOT move on to the next set of test. If you do, you might just be sent home for doing that (this will render your application forfeited).

Do your best! THINK POSITIVE.

What do I do after the test?

We recommend you to visit the St. John Berchmans Chapel located near the Student Development Center in the Administration Building. There you can personally express your thanks to God for getting through this AQT.

Try going around the campus. This might be your home for the next four school years.

III. APPLICATION DECISIONS

What possible decisions on application should we expect from the Ateneo?

You may get one of the following decision letters:

1. Acceptance
2. Conditional Acceptance
3. Rejection

How will I know I was accepted?

You may get The notice of Acceptance (or conditional acceptance or rejection, as the case may be) from the Student Development Center during office hours.

Yey! I was accepted! What should I do next?

Welcome to the Ateneo High School.

Follow the procedure outlined in the Notice of Acceptance.

You may start enrolling. First year students may enroll starting April 17, 2007 until May 17, 2008. The Registrar's Office is open from 7:30 am - 4:30 pm on weekdays and 7:30 am - 12:00 noon on Saturdays. Please avoid enrolling on the week from May 19 - 24, 2008. These dates are reserved for the upperclass enrollees.

Oh No! I was put on conditional acceptance! What should I do?

This might be due to your average scores in the AQT. You and your parents have to personally see the Registrar or the Student Development Center Coordinator for an interview and your parents will be asked to sign a Probationary Contract. You will be required to attend a three week summer Induction program / remedial program to enhance some skills that may be needed for high school education. At the start of classes, you will be placed under academic probation for one school year period.

        OMG! I wasn't accepted!

You can always opt to transfer to the Ateneo after your first year in another school. But you will have to take the AQT again, have a final first year average of at least 86% and should have no failing grade.

IV. SCHOLARSHIP AND FINANCIAL AID

         What are the available scholarships?

Magis Scholarship in form of graduated tuition discount to applicants who will place in the top 40 in the entrance tests. The Top 10 applicants will be granted a one hundred percent (100%) tuition discount. The next 10 highest (ranks11-20), a seventy-five percent (75%) and the rest (ranks 21-40), a fifty percent (50%) discount

Grant-In-Aid (GIA) may also be applied for by those who need financial aid.

How do I apply for scholarship?

For Magis Scholarship, you need not apply. All you need is to pass the AQT and be one of the top 40 successful applicants.

Is there a separate exam for scholarship?

No.

What are the criteria for GIA?

The scholarship committee evaluates the following:

1. Financial need
2. Academic performance
3. AQT result
4. Recommendation

How will I know if I qualified for any of the Scholarships?

For the Magis Scholarship, you will be informed by phone call, email or mail, whichever is most appropriate.

Is there a grade requirement to be maintained?

For Magis Scholars, just maintain a spot in the top forty. This will be based on the final grades. For GIA scholars, no failing grade(s) at the end of the school year.
